Creative Problem Solving
Creative Problem-Solving is at the heart of my Life Coaching practice.
My problem today was an easy one:
Mouth numb from the dentist + a NEED for coffee = staw in mug
Where do you think Creative Problem-Solving could help you?
Here are 5 examples of Solution Focused/ Creative Problem Solving that I use with clients and in my own life
1) the Miracle Question-- if a Miracle happened while you slept that helped you with this problem, how would you know the Miracle occurred? What changes would you notice? What would be different?
2) top down approach-- take the problem (or the resolved problem) and work backwards to the present. What tasks, obstacles, or positive interventions would need to happen for its resolution?
3) replace BUT with AND when discussing the problem at hand
4) rate your problem on a scale from 1 to 10 (positive outcome/resolution). Then ask yourself, "how can I get the problem from a 5(for example) to an 8? What would I need to do? What would others need to do? What events must occur?
5) brainstorm the craziest and even unrealistic solutions and ideas first. This will "fire-up" your creative side and facilitate more realistic and achievable solutions to the problem
