Why Are We Here?

I had a client ask me this question a few weeks ago, and it's been weighing on me. Not because I am having an existential crisis, but because I wasn't sure how to respond.

At the time, I told her that I think we are "here"-- that each one of us exists, for our own reasons. That I am "here" for one reason, that she might be "here" for another, etc. But I could tell that this response did not satisfy her.

I do believe that each one of us exists on earth for our own reasons and that when we align with our own meaning and purpose, we can feel much more fulfilled in our lives. -- that is why I became a life coach. But this answer does not touch on existence as a whole.

Thus I have been pondering... and this is what I have come up with.

Sure, God, the Universe, or whatever else is out there could have a reason we exist. And maybe it is a good one. Perhaps us humans exist because we are remnants of an alien race who died out long ago and we are "here" to keep their DNA alive. Or perhaps earth is a place for souls to grow, learn, and ascend and when we die we become something else.

But what if we exist for a crappy reason? What if earth is a soul farm and like us humans farming cows and chickens, some alien race farms souls on earth to consume and eat. -- scary thought.

I could come up with a dozen reasons for why we exist and they could all be wrong. The truth is that none of us can truly know why we exist until we die ... and even then we might never know.

So instead of spiraling down the black hole of existential dread, I ask you to ponder this--

Why does there have to be a reason? And why do you need permission to exist?

And most importantly-- why do you want to exist? What's your reason to keep living? To keep fighting? To keep paying bills?

Is it for love? Friendship? Money? Stuff? To create? For the pursuit of knowledge? To make the perfect cup of tea?

Because finding the meaning of life (which could just be 42) is no what will bring you peace, it's finding, creating, and living your own meaning that will.

And hey... if you have a short and sweet answer to why we exist, or would like to share your "why," let me know below.

Much Love <3
